Dental implants are today the safest option to replace missing teeth.
An implant is a titanium screw inserted into the maxillary bone, on which crowns or prostheses will later be placed to replace the lost tooth in appearance and functionality.
Advantages of dental implants:
- Chew correctly
- Recover the smile, which also improves self-esteem
- Improve digestion by chewing food properly
- Speak and pronounce without difficulties; the tongue will be able to move naturally
- Recover the full functionality of the mouth by having all the teeth
The dental implant placement process
Depending on the type of implant, dental implant procedure steps may vary.
It should be said that there are two types of dental implants, the traditional ones, in which the process is longer, and smile-in-a-day implants.
To place a dental implant in a traditional way, it is necessary to see the condition of the bone where the implants will be located and determine the dental prosthesis that the patient will need. Therefore, in general, the steps for each dental implant are:
- Previous study and assessment
First, the dentist identifies the patient’s needs and will carry out a preliminary evaluation. At Previa Implant Center, we perform a 3-dimensional radiological study (CBCT or Dental CT), which helps us understand your jaw morphology and the amount of bone available.
Once they finish the study, the dental team will plan a personalized treatment for each patient and the type of anesthesia the patient will need, ordinarily local anesthesia.
- Surgical procedure of the implant
Once the anesthesia is applied, the dentist incurs the gums to see the bone where they will place the implants. If necessary, teeth will be removed.
Next, the implant is screwed to the bone to be well placed and secured. In the space where there is no tooth, the dentist places another element that will be there during the healing process.
- Healing phase
This stage can last several months while the implant adheres firmly to the bone.
- Tooth placement
Once the healing phase is over, the doctor will place the necessary tooth or teeth. At this stage, a dental crown is placed on the implant.
- Treatment
Finally, each patient will receive treatment for the care of their dental implants.
